Currently on Break from a D&D Campaign
Have been running a D&D campaign for two or three years now. I played in another one. I had to take break. It had stopped being fun. It took me more than a few days to realize what was going on.
Even in the game I was playing, the focus was more on other stuff than what was going on in the game. It was distracting, and I wasn't entirely included in the stuff that was being watched on phones and talked about. It broke my focus and made the game less fun.
I started dreading game days. This was not typical GM burnout. I still have a vast story to tell. The immediate future of the party is clouded by a fallen celestial trying to ascend to godhood, and they need to stop him.
So, players: Put your phones down. Don't pick them up if it's not your turn. Play with your dice. Anything but get distracted by the phone demon. I'm going to pick the game up again with whoever is still willing to play after I tell them this.
GMs. Put your foot down. Don't let the players forget you're there to have fun, too.
OK, I'll put the soapbox away now.
Quoth!
